Hot Air Ballooning
If you want to have a true Steamboat experience, there is no better way to view the surrounding mountain vistas, including the famous Sleeping Giant, than doing it from a hot air balloon. There are several options that offer daily half hour or full hour tours of the Yampa Valley. more info
Some of these trips include courtesy van pickup in addition to a continental breakfast to start off the day or a champagne celebration to mark a special occasion. The colorful balloons will take you on either a cross country trip or a mountain flight, both of which will offer inspring views and optimal panaoramic photos. If you prefer to stay with your feet planted firmly on the ground, you may opt to watch the balloons take flight, but make sure you are an early riser as most flights depart at 6:00am, with the last ones leaving around 7:00am. If you are lucky enough to be in Steamboat for Rainbow Weekend, usually around July 9-10, then you can catch the "balloon rodeo" in which over 40 balloons take flight into the early morning sky providing a plethora of colors against the backdrop of the majestic rockies.
