Gondola Rides
A fabulous way to enjoy an afternoon in Steamboat Springs is to take a ride up the Mt. Werner Gondola. This unique experience enables you to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Colorado’s ecology as you pass over meadows with wildflowers and groves of aspen trees. Also in view is the town of Steamboat Springs and a panorama of the surrounding hillsides. With the ability to hold 8 passengers in each gondola car, this activity is perfect for families and groups. more info
When you get to the top of Mt Werner, you might be refreshed and surprised by a cool mountain breeze. It’s a good idea even on a hot summer day to bring a sweater and a hat. Enjoy the view and a meal from the mountaintop grill. Brunch is also available on the weekends. Or bring a picnic and eat lunch in the great outdoors! (However, please don’t share your food with the wildlife…)
The best way to enjoy a day on Mt Werner is to ride the gondola to the top and then hike or bike from there! It is possible to bring a bike up the gondola, but it does require an extra fee. There are several well-maintained trails to choose from. Wildflowers bloom later in to the season at higher elevations, so hiking on top of Mt Werner is beautiful throughout the entire summer! Since the gondola has brought you to the top of the hill, most of the trails are easy to moderate. It is even possible to hike back down to the town! If you do choose to hike down instead of taking the gondola, be sure to bring a hiking pole or stick in order to reduce the impact on your knees! It is also possible to ride the gondola down if you hike to the top.
