Families visiting the Steamboat area will quickly see that there are tons of activities that are great for the whole family, or if you all need a break from one another- fun for just the kids! The area boasts several organized clubs for kids where activities include short hikes, outdoor games, arts and crafts, picnics, and water sports. For those looking for a more informative look at the area, there is also a nonprofit group that leads educational tours. You can enjoy different types of hikes, such as the wildflower hike, bird walks, and tours of historic downtown Steamboat. It is a great way for kids to be active and appreciative of their new surroundings. If you know of a child with creative aspirations, there is even a performing arts camp offering instruction in different types of dance, theater for the budding thespian, and creative writing.

Steamboat truly offers something for everyone, and whether your child prefers the stage to the trail, there are several activities that will appeal to everyone. You cannot leave Steamboat without, taking advantage of the beautiful Yampa River, and what better way to do that then by trying out a kayak school. There is a class designed for every skill, so whether you want to learn or want to take your paddling to the next level you have many options. If you want a more leisurly activity, you can try tubing the Yampa, as there are several spots with easy access to put in and take out. If hiking or biking appeals to you, just take the Silver Bullet Gondola to the top of Mt. Werner for easy access to over 40 miles of hiking trails. You can choose to hike down, or rent a mountain bike and explore the ski area. If you like to bike, you should check out the Yampa River Core Trail, a 4 mile paved trail along the river, allowing you to watch tubers, kayakers, and other white water revelers. Steamboat also offers horseback riding, a wonderful way to explore the many trails in the area for a whole day or just an hour. When the day is done, there is still much to be offered. Who could deny the excitement of the pro rodeo in town. You can watch bareback riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. And if that is not exciting enough, the kids can get in on the action with the Calf Scramble for ages 6-12, and the Ram Scramble for the younger ones. One hour prior to the rodeo there is a barbecue and entertainment, so you can make a whole evening of it, and will be sure to be one of the many highlights of your time in Steamboat.
