Howelsen Hill Ski Area
Steamboat Springs is home to Colorado's oldest downhill ski resort: Howelsen Hill Ski Area. The lifts at this little gem have been running non-stop since 1913!
Located right in town, you'll find many a local taking a ski run during their lunch break from work. The resort offers an assortment of activities for visitors as well. Howelsen Hill Ski Area is especially great for families or budget conscious travelers. It's worth checking out for several reasons:
Ski Jumping
There are reasons that the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has produced over 50 winter Olympians. One of those reasons is the presence of 5 world-class, natural ski jumps. In fact, it's the largest natural ski-jumping facility in the country. Many visitors prefer watching to participating in this activity. Feel free to enjoy the ski jumps from afar. You may even get to see a future Olympian!
Terrain Park
Howelsen Hill may not be as big as other ski areas, but it doesn't matter to snowboarders who prefer tricks and big air. Many snowboarders (and skiers) stay all day on the terrain park at the larger resorts, and they will be just as happy with the terrain park at Howelsen Hill.
Learn to ski or snowboard
If you are just beginning to ski or snowboard, Howelsen Hill is the perfect place to start! Qualified instructors will help you learn to take those first turns. Once you master all 15 of the trails you might choose to try the larger resort.
Competitive Events
Howelsen Hill has hosted several major competitive events in the past. If you are lucky, you'll have the chance to watch the world cup up close and personal, or root for your favorite local at a national event. Even the junior events are quite impressive!
Nordic Skiing
There are 25 kilometers of cross-country ski terrain at Howelsen Hill Ski Area. This is an excellent family activity on a sunny day! Get some exercise and glide across the snow while enjoying the beauty of Colorado.
Ice Skating
Show off your triple toe loop, hold hands with your special friend, or enjoy some quality family time on the ice!
Dining
There are 2 restaurants to enjoy on Howelsen Hill. Reservations recommended!
