Yampa Valley Cutter and Chariot Racing
Horse racing's best kept secret! Colorado's original chariot association, founded in the early 1960's, is still going strong. If you're not sure what chariot racing is all about, come and be a part of the action in downtown Steamboat Springs at Romick Arena. One of the most exciting parts of the race and that can make all the difference in races is where the winner often is determined by tenths of a second.
By the time the horses reach full speed on the 440-yard track, the snow will be flying through the mountain air, the drivers will be focused on the finish line and the horses and chariots can appear a colorful blur. For most, the Winter Carnival is a chance to come out and celebrate Steamboat's long and rich skiing tradition, but for the members of the Yampa Valley Cutter and Chariot Racing Association, it's a chance to showcase a sport that thrives in the Yampa Valley's ranching community.
It looks like you may have missed it this time around.
