The Tread of Pioneers Museum sits at the corner of 8th and Oak in downtown Steamboat Springs. You should visit this museum just for the 1908 Queen Anne-style Victorian home that sports furnishings from the era.
The Museum sits in the Zimmerman House. Built in 1908 by Earnest Campbell and sold to E.H. Zimmerman in 1913, the house is a unique experience all ages will enjoy. The Zimmerman family lived in the house until 1956; at this point in time it was bought by the county. The Tread of Pioneers Museum was created in 1959 by several Routt County locals who wanted to keep the memories and items of Routt County for future generations because the area has a very unique history that deserves to be remembered. The name of the Museum comes from a John Greenleaf Whittier quotation that was very fitting for the name of the museum.
The Ski History exhibit within the museum shows visitors how skiing in the town changed from being a way to get around in the winter to the popular sport it is today.
