The city of Steamboat Springs is situated in Routt County, Colorado. Famous the world over for being a fantastic winter resort destination, the Steamboat Ski Resort is a great place to take your family for a ski vacation.
Located in the upper valley of the Yampa River, Steamboat Springs sits along U.S. Highway 40 just west of the continental divide at Rabbit Ears Pass. The town gets its name from the Steamboat Spring, which is located very close to the present day library. The bubbling of the spring sounded like a steamboat to some of the first people to arrive in the area - hence the name. Two public springs in Steamboat are open for use. The largest can be found at the Steamboat Health and Recreation Center. It contains several pools and a slide. For a more natural experience, go to Strawberry Park Hot Springs, which is located a few miles outside of town. Nestled between mountains, this location offers two pools and no artificial light so you can experience the springs while stargazing. .
