Steamboat Lake State Park
Nestled at the base of majestic Hahn's Peak in northern Colorado, Steamboat Lake State Park offers breathtaking scenery and plenty of excellent recreational opportunities. Picnicking
Picnic sites are available at the Placer Cove day-use area, Tombstone Nature Trailhead, Sage Flats day-use area and the Dutch Hill Marina area.
Trails
A walk along Steamboat's trails offers glimpses of some common park residents including: mule deer, fox, beaver, chipmunks, a wide assortment of birds and amazing wildflowers. The nearby Routt National Forest provides many hiking, mountain biking and four-wheel driving opportunities.
Tombstone Nature Trail
This 1.1 mile loop trail at Placer Cove Day Use Area provides views of Steamboat Lake and highlights features of the area's natural and cultural history.
Willow Creek Trail
Links the Dutch Hill/Marina area to the Sunrise Vista Campground and continues on to the Visitor Center providing 2 1/2 miles of hiking. From the Visitor Center, the trail continues on 1.3 miles to the Sage Flats Day Use Area.
Camping
Most of the 188 campsites at Steamboat Lake are well shaded by aspen or lodgepole pine, with some sites near the shoreline.
With more than 300 inches of annual snowfall, Steamboat Lake takes on a new personality in winter. The park is a popular spot for exploring by cross-country ski and snowshoe. Placer Cove and the Sunrise Vista Campground are zoned "non-motorized" in winter and feature a network of groomed ski trails.
