Steamboat Springs is located in Northwest Colorado, about 160 miles northwest of Denver. Also called Ski Town USA® and known for its World Class skiing facilities, Steamboat Springs was originally a summer resort.

Travelers in the early 1900s visited Steamboat Springs in the summer months for the natural hot springs and vast hunting and fishing opportunities. Today, summer activities span the spectrum, with three championship golf courses, an indoor-outdoor tennis center, biking, hiking, kayaking, fly fishing, and horseback riding right in town.

Summer activities are abundant for biking and kayaking, to fly fishing and horseback riding.

Nearby reservoirs, rivers, wilderness, and four Colorado State Parks also provide excellent boating, fishing, camping, and rafting. Throughout the summer months, Steamboat hosts a ProRodeo series every weekend mid-June through late August, as well as several chamber music, jazz, bluegrass and popular music concerts, an opera, art galleries and historical landmarks. Steamboat Springs’ most popular summer events are the Fourth of July Cowboys’ Round Up Days and Rainbow Weekend’s Balloon Rodeo and Art in the Park.

Steamboat Springs is known for its authentic Western feel and small town hospitality. Year-round visitors enjoy a comfortable climate and four distinct seasons. Downtown altitude is 6,695 with the surrounding mountains rising to over 10,500 feet. There are over 70 diverse restaurants and bars, as well as unique shops and boutiques. Conference and event facilities of all sizes and types offer space for retreats, reunions, and weddings. Steamboat and the surrounding area offer a wide variety of lodging options from guest ranches to full service resort hotels.

One of the more outstanding community groups is the Steamboat Community Players, which presents a varying number of popular community theater productions annually.

Formed in 1972 under the auspices of the Arts Council, Steamboat Community Players is now an independent nonprofit organization. This active group of local actors and technicians attracts enthusiastic audiences to their productions.

The Steamboat Community Players have been entertaining the Yampa Valley since 1987 with such wonderful productions as: "The Foreigner", "GodSpell", "The Fantasticks", "Lion in Winter", The Annual Evening of One Acts, along with Improvisational Theatre, original productions, and other forms of entertainment, including a Holiday Extravaganza, We're Not Clowns Juggling and Comedy Shows and An Evening of Dance by Promethea Dance Project.
